Chennai, March 21 (IANS) An infant with two heads and two extra pairs of limbs was born in Salem town of Tamil Nadu Saturday and many people began to worship it as a god. However, it died within a few hours.

'A number of people attempted to worship the child as only divine incarnations are known to have been born with multiple limbs and heads,' the infant's father K. Ezhumalai told IANS.

'Unfortunately, the child weighing 2.75 kg passed away within hours of being born to my wife Pushpa who is still inconsolable. We could not ascertain the child's sex since its intestines were mangled around the genital area,' he added.

The parents, Ezhumalai, 21 and Pushpa, 20, are from Idappadi, a weavers' village about 30 km south of Salem, which is about 300 km south-west of Chennai. The birth took place in the government-run maternity hospital in Salem.
