People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said the Government must fulfil the commitment made during the assembly elections on the implementation of the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission for the State government employees.
In a statement here on Saturday, a PDP spokesman said both the coalition partners had repeatedly promised to implement the recommendations as one of the first acts of the new government. "The NC had even promised to issue orders to that effect in the first cabinet meeting after the elections," he said.
The spokesman said that the genuine demands of the employees couldn’t be ignored or delayed as their expectations have been raised before the elections through a series of pronouncements. He added the government had long back accepted the principle for equal pay for equal work and could not wriggle out of that arrangement on any pretext now.
The employees are facing difficult times like other sections of the society and the government should avoid the path of confrontation with them. The government should show a sentiment of cordiality and sympathy towards its employees rather than be forced into implementation of new pay scales, spokesman said and added that any prolongation of confrontation could harm the interests of the State.
