Slumdog Millionaire's 10 Oscar nods most for any Brit film in last decade

London, Jan 23 (ANI): Danny Boyle's film Slumdog Millionaire's staggering 10 Oscar nominations are the most for a British film in the past decade.

The film tracks the story of Jamal Malik, a dirt-poor orphan from the slums who astonishes India when he does well on the country's version of 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?'.

It has already won Golden Globe Awards and has also garnered 11 nominations in Baftas.

After Shakespeare In Love, which got 13 nominations in 1999, no British film had received so many Oscar nods. It walked away with a gong in seven categories.

Slumdog star Dev Patel, 18, who shot to fame after appearing in Channel 4 show Skins, calls it 'amazing'.

"It's amazing. I don't think any of us imagined that we might end up attending the Oscars ceremony," the Mirror quoted him as saying.

Danny Boyle, who has been nominated for the Best Director award, said: "I'm ecstatic. It feels like you've given us a billion nominations."

The ceremony will be held on February 22. (ANI)
