17 Pakistani fishermen nabbed in Gujarat to be questioned

National, Mon, 19 Jan 2009 IANS

Bhuj, Jan 19 (IANS) Seventeen Pakistani fishermen have been awaiting interrogation in this Gujarat city after they were caught for entering Indian waters at the Kori Creek last week.

The fishermen, caught Thursday from the Kori Creek by the Coast Guard, are in the custody of the Narayan Sarovar Police Station and the police of the border district of Kutch have already interrogated them, police sources said Monday.

According to preliminary investigation, nothing incriminating has been found in the two fishing boats, named Al-Ahmed Raja and Al-Ibrahim, seized by the Coast Guard, but the fishermen have no identification papers, raising suspicions, they said.

The arrested fishermen say they sailed out from Dhanda vlliage near Karachi of Sindh province Jan 12 for fishing, police said.

Fishermen from India and Pakistan often inadvertently cross the international waters while fishing.

Meanwhile, the police Sunday nabbed two Bangladeshis and an Indian from Assam at the Bhuj railway station as they were moving around suspiciously. On interrogation they said they were in Kutch to infiltrate into the Pakistan side, police said.
