Two railway officials suspended after employee dies

National, Fri, 16 Jan 2009 IANS

Kapurthala (Punjab), Jan 15 (IANS) Two officials of the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) were suspended Thursday after an employee of the factory was killed in a freak accident inside the complex.

The victim, Pramod Kumar, was crushed during the shunting of rail coaches inside the factory complex Wednesday evening. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died.

Employees of the RCF alleged that the death took place due to negligence of officials. Following an internal preliminary probe, RCF officials suspended two senior engineers, Ravi Narula and P.K. Pandey.

The employees alleged that RCF officials were not enforcing safety measures due to which the accident occurred. They said the RCF was getting crowded with numerous orders of railway coaches being received in recent months.

The RCF complex located here, 200 km from Chandigarh, is credited with making coaches used by the Indian Railways.
