US post-SWW policy continues in Middle East

Aug 02: US when announced the arms deal and military aid to some selected countries of the Middle East was neither surprising nor something innovative. It was very much in line with the Middle East policy adopted in the past since Second World War.

And there is also no need to mention the real objective behind such assistance as it has been very vocally pronounced by the secretary of state to save the American interests in the region which are being threatened by the rising Iran, one time ally of US in the region. What are those ‘interests’?

This is very much part of US interventionist foreign policy which it followed since it discovered Middle East as ‘the most material prizes of the world’ and ‘the most strategic part of the world’ having the largest reserves of ‘oil’, a key driver which creates a road of global leadership for US.

This recognition of the region as strategic has not come overnights but a long held belief since it was taken over from the British. And the policy of 2007 is no different from the policy of 1940s when it selected some cops of the region to curb the uncivilized tribes ( Arabs) the only difference is that parties have changed their places. Earlier Iran and Israel were given the task of maintaining law and order in the region and this time those ‘recalcitrant Arabs’ (as addressed in US administration) have been appointed for policing.

Once considered the major threat to the regional stability now is being supplied weapons to build a shield against the instability due on the part of Iran. Even periphery policy is the same just the station points have changed.

But should this be considered a failure of US administration that in spite of direct intervention in the region it has been unable to bully the ‘rebels’. That’s why once again preparing a brigade of local police buying their loyalty through arms.

Iran committed to develop nuclear weapons is threat to the security of the region and will lead to the proliferation and what US arms supply will do? stabilise? Will not this provide easy access to weapons to Islamic militants organization of which are supported by Sunni Arabs

This bid is obviously to create a smooth road for accessing oil resources of the area without any hindrances. A foreign policy analyst in US recommended a military control of the region by US. Robert W. Tucker accepted that by control over Middle East only US can rule the world and dictate to the world its term. His words read, “it is the Gulf that forms the indispensable key to the defense of American global position. US is following his advice with its bases in Turkey Jordan and Arabian sea.

Currently US faces the same things to combat as did in the past ‘the rising radical nationalism’ in the distant past in Arab countries and now in non-Arab. Yes the only constant thing has been Israel which was its ‘guardian’ (used by Noam Chomsky) in the past and serving its masters presently too.

Oil is the main reason behind this change of heart of US for the Arabs. Though it needs some beautiful cover-up that it has found in the form of ‘regional stability’. All arrows have one target. On the sidelines is also cited a creation of arms market.
