FBI team visits Kasab's village

Washington, Jan 1 (ANI): A US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) team has visited Faridkot in Paklistan is Pujab province the ancestral village of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist arrested for his role in the Mumbai terror attacks.

 

The team, headed by the FBI's director William Robert, visited Faridkot to investigate Kasab's link with Pakistan, the Dawn reports.

 

Refusing to comment on the report, FBI spokesman Richard Kolko said, "We are unable to provide details of what is being done."

 

"The FBI continues to assist Indian authorities with their investigation. We will work with the Indian authorities and our partners to follow leads wherever they may take us," he added.

 

Meanwhile, Islamabad continues to remain clueless about the reported visit. "It is not in the knowledge of the Interior Ministry and the Punjab government," Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah was quoted as saying.

 

Before coming to Pakistan, the FBI team had visited India but didn't issue on their visit.

 

According to sources, the FBI team questioned Kasab for more than nine hours and sought minor details about Kasab's native village and his alleged links to the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant organisation.

 

The FBI also reportedly collected DNA samples of nine terrorists killed in Mumbai to find out whether they matched with anyone in their data bank.

 

Pakistani and the officials have a contradictory take on the FBI's investigation's.

 

While Indian officials claim that the FBI did found some substantial links on a Pakistani agency's involvement in the attacks, the Pakistanis insist that it didn't.

 

US officials have chosen to remain silent on the issue. (ANI)
