Demand for recounting in Bishna in Jammu region

Jammu, Thu, 01 Jan 2009 ANI

Jammu, Jan 1 (ANI): Around a dozen activists of regional Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) got injured when police resorted to baton charge on them as they were staging a protest on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in Kashmir.

Among the injured in the baton charge were supporters of BSP leader Kamal Arora who had contested in the recent assembly elections unsuccessfully from Bishna constituency.

They were protesting with a demand for re-counting of votes in Bishna constituency.

The protestors alleged that there were irregularities in the counting which led to the winning of independent candidate Ashwani Sharma.

Led by Kamal Arora, the protestors had blocked the highway disrupting the normal movement of vehicles along the highway.

It is pertinent to mention here that Kamal Arora lost assembly election from the constituency to Ashwani Sharma with a margin of around 400 votes. By Tahir Nadeem Khan (ANI)
