Bijnor (UP), Dec 25 (ANI): Forest officials in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh has rescued a two-year-old injured female leopard that had lost its way in the forest and later strayed into human habitat.
In a rescue operation that lasted for nearly four hours, the leopard was tranquillised and then trapped in a cage.
The forest ranger said the leopard will be kept under observation."We will give proper treatment to it and once it is completely fit, we will consult our Chief Warden in Lucknow and as per directions we will leave it either in the zoo or in the forest," said Santosh Vijay Sharma, District Forest Official, Bijnor.
Experts opine that increasing human interference such as development, encroachment and destruction of natural habitat as well as poaching pose a serious threat to leopards. (ANI)
