Tension between India, Pak will soon ease up: Shaharyar Khan

Islamabad, Sat, 20 Dec 2008 ANI

Islamabad, Dec.20 (ANI): Former Pakistan Foreign Secretary Shaharyar Khan has said that the present tension between India and Pakistan will soon ease up.

"I do not think this position could remain as it is for long. Things would improve in a few months time, making it easier for both the countries to renew ties," The News quoted Shaharyar Khan, as saying.

Talking about rise in tension between the neighbouring countries and its effect on cricketing ties, the former Secretary said that the cancellation of the Indian tour was more due to political reasons rather than security concerns."The series cancellation could be related more to political tension rather than the security concerns in Pakistan. In fact such a series is not possible in circumstances where you see parties trading accusations against each other," he said.

Khan proposed the two countries can play each other on neutral venue so that the cricketing ties do not get hampered by political reasons.

"When you start playing cricket at neutral place, things would ease up and India would find easy to tour Pakistan for series. Things would definitely improve in a few months time and cricketing ties would also get better," Khan said.

Khan said that the Indian tour would have improved the financial condition of the PCB, as series against the arch rivals have proved to be a financial success."At the time when the PCB is facing a financial crunch, the series against India could have proved a shot in the arm," he said. (ANI)
