Kuala Lumpur, June 28 (ANI): The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has welcomed the government's move to provide more amenities for the Malay Indian community.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department S.K. Devamany thanked the government for aiding the community through its provisions in the Ninth Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review.

"We are happy with the government's move to form a special trust fund to increase the Indian community's share of the economy," the New Strait Times quoted Devamany, as saying.

He also said that the government's stated aim of increasing the community's corporate equity to 1.5 per cent by 2010 was very timely.

The government's special focus on improving the quality of Tamil language education in national and vernacular schools was also praiseworthy, he said.

"Indian youth will benefit greatly from the various skills and business training provided for them under the 9MP," Devamany said, adding that all these measures proved that the government provided equal opportunities to the multi-cultural populace of this country. (ANI)
