At least 21 dead in Ghana fuel tanker blast

Nairobi/Accra, Nov 26 (DPA) At least 21 people died in Ghana when the broken down tanker they were trying to collect fuel from exploded, reports said Wednesday.

 

The BBC reported that locals were crowding round the tanker and scooping up fuel in the town of Techiman, 290 km north-west of the capital Accra, when the fuel truck exploded.

 

 

A local official said that the bodies were burnt beyond all recognition. Fifty people were also taken to hospital.

 

 

Similar incidents have taken place in Cameroon and Nigeria in the last year, causing scores of deaths.
