Raipur, Nov 21 (IANS) Politicians and pundits are busy debating the possible outcome of the two-phased Chhattisgarh elections which concluded Thursday to elect a new 90-member assembly.
Both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress claim they will surely win. But their leaders at various levels are calling political analysts and journalists to know what they feel.
BJP leaders are worried over the heavy polling, 75-79 percent, in 34 seats where the party fielded its sitting legislators.
The Congress, which fought the elections in factions and groups rather than as a party, is now busy collecting inputs from 39 seats -- 29 of them reserved for tribals and 10 for Dalits -- where it has high hopes.
'The picture looks hazy. The Congress will form the government only if it performs well in tribal and Dalit seats. The BJP is bound to do better in urban seats,' a Congress insider told IANS.
The Congress source said the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which contested all 90 seats for the first time, is likely to grab five to six seats. 'If this happens, it will be at our cost.'
