Ranchi, Thu, 26 Jun 2008 ANI

Ranchi, June 26 (ANI): Police arrested four Maoists on Thursday who were engaged in promoting ideologies of the rebel Maoist organization at Ranchi in Jharkhand.

Several books, pamphlets and other subversive literature, aimed at mobilizing youth to join their ranks have been recovered from them.

"Four Maoists have been arrested. These Maoists used to work for frontal Organisation of Maoist groups. Their work is to campaign for the Maoist organisation. Lot of subversive literature has been recovered from them," said MS Bhatia, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi.

Investigations have begun to trace the network involved in publication of the Public Relation material, the place where it is published and the places where it is used, informed the police.

The Maoists operate in a large swathe of India, mostly in the countryside, stretching from the east to some southern states, and attack government officials and property.

Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have the maximum incidents of Maoist violence.

Maoists, locally known as 'Naxalites', say they are fighting for the rights of poor labourers and landless farmers.

The government has recently embarked upon a new strategy to coordinate the response of all affected states. It says it will combine improved policing with socio-economic measures, to address grievances that fuel the Maoist cause. (ANI)
