New Delhi , Nov 6 (IANS) An agreement to transfer convicts between India and Hong Kong was approved by the union cabinet Thursday.
'Convicted prisoners from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) can be transferred to their home country and prisoners of Indian origin can be brought back home to serve the remaining part of their sentence,' said a cabinet statement.
This will enable sentenced persons to be near their families and also help in the process of their social rehabilitation.
Under the agreement a request for transfer shall be made by the sentenced person or by any other person who is entitled to act on his behalf in accordance with the law of the country to which the request is made.
