The Indian Air Force Commanders’ conclave kicked off here on Thursday at Air Headquarters with the inaugural address of the IAF chief, Air Chief Marshal Fali H Major.
Outlining his vision of the shape of the IAF, Fali Major said: “With the induction of new assets, IAF’s capabilities have enhanced strikingly and the IAF’s operational plans will now become much more effective.”
Indian Air Force is the most important force-multiplier and must be treated with utmost concern and empathy, he said adding, “We need to emphasise the need to develop state-of-the-art maintenance practices and facilities.”
The conclave deliberated on a wide range of strategic and security issues in the light of the emerging geo-political scenario. Apart from operational challenges before the IAF, other issues like flight safety, maintenance, administrative and logistical issues, which impinge on the operational effectiveness of Air Force, are also taken up.
The Air Officers Commanding-in-Chief would outline a data based review. The conference would also take up for discussions the lessons learnt during Exercises- ‘Red Flag’ and ‘Desert Eagle’ and future road map for Garud force.
The proposal sent to the Cabinet regarding implementation of the Ajai Vikram Singh Committee (AVSC) Phase-II report, under which additional posts for the 140 new generals and 1,756 Brigadier and Colonel-rank officers were to be created, would also dominate the conference.
As per the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report submitted yesterday, the Indian Air Force is facing an acute shortage of efficient pilots after failing miserably to impart quality training.
The top brass of the Indian Air Force including Air Officers Commanding-in-Chief of all IAF Commands and Principle Staff Officers of Air Headquarters also attended the conclave.
