Haqqani's lawyer Asma Jahangir questions ISI chief General Pasha's meeting with Ijaz

Islamabad, Dec 30(ANI): Former Pakistani envoy Husain Haqqani's counsel Asma Jahangir has questioned the meeting between the Inter Services Intelligence chief Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha and businessman Mansoor Ijaz without the permission of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

 

She made the above statement in a reply to the nine member -bench of the Supreme Court probe into the scandal.

 

She said the memo escalated tensions between the civilian government and the army, and that her client was pressed between the two institutions.

 

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Iftikar Ahmad Chaudhary, observed that the court respects General Pasha's sacrifice for the country's defence, The Daily Times reports.

 

Asma pointed out that the soldiers sacrificed their blood for its defence, and the army officers ruled the country, adding that she respects the institution.

 

She however said, that every army's act did not reflect wisdom wisdom, as evident from history.

 

She urged the court to dismiss the petitions regarding the Memo Gate scandal, as the petitioners were high-profile personalities. (ANI)
