Islamabad, Dec 27(ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has rebuffed speculations that the government is planning to sack the country's top military leadership.
"We have no plan to sack Gen Kayani and Gen Pasha. There is no clash between the government and the military," The Daily Times quoted Gilani, as saying.
He also expressed satisfaction over both military chiefs being granted extension of their tenures.
"I am happy with him. That was on my request," he said, adding that they did not seek extension.
His statement came in the wake of speculations that the government may oust army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and Inter-Services Intelligence chief Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha amid escalating tensions between government and army over the Memo Gate probe.
Gilani said all national institutions are working under the government's direction.
He categorically said that he is satisfied with the performances of both military leaders and added that government has no plans to oust them amid the prevailing state of war in the country.
He blamed the 'opportunists' for circulating such rumours, who were seeking to attain their own political goals.
Gilani said the parliament would complete its constitutional term, regardless of him being the prime minister.
He said that he did not view the opposition as a threat and called for continuation of the democratic process, which, he said, even his opponent and Pakistan Muslim League- N chief Nawaz Sharif was committed to achieving. (ANI)
