Parents approved of Karachi madrassa's brutal methods to discipline children
Islamabad, Dec 19(ANI): Parents of the children who were abused at a Karachi madrassa, have said they approved of the brutal methods used in the premises, as they feel it is the only solution to tackle teenagers.
"They are young and so naughty, I was worried they would run away. This was to straighten them out for a month," The Telegraph quoted a parent, as saying.
"If they are naughty I'll send them to an even worse place where they are chained even tighter," he added.
Another parent, Buaz Mohammed said he was aware of drug addicts being chained in the school but said he had no other option for his son's education.
"This was the only place I could send him because they don't ask for any money," he said.
Pakistan Police have released 60 boys who were chained during day and locked them up in a room at night, with a watchman patrolling the madrassa.
The madrassa is now closed, its headteacher has fled and two members of staff have been arrested.
A local police station head, Ehsan Marwat, said his officers were shocked at the welts and bruising found on the children.
"The police also use these methods but we have to face the courts and the media. These guys showed no mercy," he said.
According to Pakistan Government figures, over 15,000 madrassas are running across the country. (ANI)
