Tehran, Dec 11 (ANI): An Iranian lawmaker has said that the launching of an online virtual embassy by the United States is 'a new conspiracy' against the people of his nation.
Hadi Moqaddasi, chairman of parliament Social Commission said that if the US was very interested in settling the problems facing bilateral ties, it should admit its "50-year-old hostility" towards the Iranian nation.
He stressed that there is undoubtedly a new conspiracy against the Iranian people living both inside and outside the country behind the launch of the virtual embassy, Xinhua reports.
The US State Department opened the virtual embassy last week, calling it 'a platform of communication between the two nations, openly and without fear.'
Iran, however, blocked access to the site a day after its launch.
The White House then condemned the Iranian government for its blockade of the online embassy.
The United States broke off diplomatic relations with Iran on April 7, 1980, after a group of Iranian students seized the US embassy and captured some 60 US diplomats in 1979, with 52 of them held captive for 444 days in the hostage crisis. (ANI)
