New Delhi, Dec 3(ANI): Bollywood actress Vidya Balan on Saturday said that she felt elated as her new film 'The Dirty Picture' received rave reviews and opened to packed houses.
The film generated curiosity due to it being a biopic on the life of south Indian film actress Silk Smitha who ruled the 1980s era of the film industry.
Speaking to media in New Delhi, Balan said she was overwhelmed with the kind of response she got from the audience.
"Playing Silk (Smitha) in the 'Dirty Picture' has been extremely demanding. Physically, mentally and emotionally it was exhausting but also very-very exhilarating. It feels good that I am receiving such chances and it feels good that the movie is doing good business," Balan said.
"Though it has been only a day since Dirty Picture has (been) released but people have received it with open arms and I could not have asked for more. Starting of the year was good and I hope that last two-three weeks of the going year will also be good," she added.
The story of the film is based on the life of Vijayalaxmi, who entertained the people at large with her performances in various movies. However the controversial actress, who was considered a sex symbol, died in mysterious circumstances. Reports claim that she had committed suicide.
"Smitha was the most famous dancing star of her time and it is obvious that when Rajat Aroraa, who is the writer of the film, was writing the film, Smitha had occupied lot of space in his mind. Also because she was the first one to be named Silk, many were named after her like Nylex Nalini, Rayon Revathi and many more but she was the one who will be remembered till date. Whenever we hear her name, we recognize those songs and pictures of her time," said Balan.
The music of the film is composed by Vishal-Shekhar and Rajat Aroraa has written the lyrics.
Directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, the film released at movie theatres all over India on December 2, on the birth anniversary of Smitha. (ANI)
