Congress terms targeting of Rahul Gandhi on Lokpal Bill as unfair

New Delhi, Dec 3 (ANI): Congress party on Saturday expressed its displeasure over veteran social activist Anna Hazare targeting party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, as the person who pressurised Parliament's Standing Committee to review the Lokpal Bill.

"It was unfair to blame Gandhi for affecting the procedures of the Standing Committee on the Lokpal Bill," said party spokesperson Rashid Alvi.

"The Standing Committee has not given in the final draft of the Lokpal Bill. They have not given in their final opinion either. Till the Standing Committee prepares its final draft and presents it to the Parliament, it is unfair to make any estimates or deduce from it. The statement that was made saying Rahulji (Rahul Gandhi) pressurised it, is unfair to him," he added.

Hazare, in a recent statement, had said that the procedures of the standing committee to review and redraft the Bill are being influenced by Rahul Gandhi.

Alvi also said that a recent statement by senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani regarding the conditions for his candidature as the Prime Minister in the next elections is irrelevant.

"There is not even the remotest possibility of the Bharatiya Janata Party coming to power. The type of statements they are giving have no meanings. The people of the country like secular parties and non-communal parties. The post of the Prime Minister that the BJP leaders are fighting among themselves for, is something which is beyond their reach," added Alvi.

He also took Advani to task on his another comment that hardly anybody in the country knew Congress President Sonia Gandhi

"The Bharatiya Janata Party says had no meanings as such. The statement of a single person does not make much of a difference. Sonia Gandhiji has never claimed that she is number one. Sonia Gandhi is a respectable leader and the whole country respects her. If one or two people give such statements then it does not matter much," said Alvi. (ANI)
