Musharraf not among seven people indicted in Benazir Bhutto murder case

Islamabad, Sat, 05 Nov 2011 ANI

Islamabad, Nov 5(ANI): Former Pakistan President Pervaiz Musharraf has not been indicted by the Rawalpindi anti-terrorist court (ATC) in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case.

Musharraf was accused of threatening the former Prime Minister and trying to influence post-assassination investigations.

The court, however, indicted seven others including former CCPO Rawalpindi Saud Aziz and former SP Rawal Town Khurram Shahzad, Geo News reports.

The case was heard in Adiala jail where the accused were presented before the court.

The hearing was later adjourned till November 19.

Bhutto was assassinated on December 27, 2007, after departing PPP's last rally in Rawalpindi, two weeks before the scheduled Pakistani general election of 2008 in which she was a leading opposition candidate.

It is believed that Musharraf had warned Bhutto not to come to Pakistan before the 2008 elections, as the government would only provide security to her, if she came after the polls.

Earlier, in August, the court had ordered the seizure of Musharraf's properties and freezing of his bank accounts after his continued refusal to respond to the accusations.

The court had also declared Musharraf a proclaimed offender in the assassination case. (ANI)
