New Delhi, Oct 29(ANI): A day after the sudden cancellation of American heavy metal band Metallica's concert in Gurgaon, local police today arrested four organisers of the event and registered a case of fraud against the accused.cting on complaints lodged by disgruntled fans, the police arrested four senior executives of DNA Networks.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Gurgaon, Maheshwar Dayal, said the true reasons behind the cancellation of the event are being investigated.
"We have arrested four senior officials of the company that had organised the Metallica show. We have started investigating the case. We will unearth the reasons why these organisers committed this fraud with the people," Dayal told mediapersons.
The concert, scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix, was postponed by a day and later cancelled due to technical difficulties, causing a howl of outrage among fans and triggering chaos at the venue.
Police said the concert had been cancelled due to a major technical snag, which led to failure in functioning of the sound system.
However, shocked by the announcement, berserk fans went on a rampage at the venue, damaging expensive equipment, banners and posters.
Naming the arrested accused, Dayal said the police had slapped charges of criminal fraud on them.
"See, we have arrested four senior officials, the manager, the senior manager and the head of operations of this Bangalore-based company, DNA, in connection with the case. The arrested organisers are Mahesh, Umesh Chinara and Xavier," Dayal said.
"We have arrested them under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code, which deal with criminal fraud," he added.
The cancellation of the concert brings another embarrassment for India, after a concert by Canadian rock star Bryan Adams was cancelled on February 15 after Delhi police denied permission to organisers.
Meanwhile, the angry fans queued up outside the police station to demand refund of their tickets.
"I have come to the police station to file a complaint. Number one, to ensure I get my refunds. Number two, it is not the way a show should be held up anywhere in the country. There is a lot of trouble to the people. We were expecting a good show, but ultimately we were disappointed. This should never happen again. I am here to say this much, and to get my refund," said Anil Aggarwal, a Metallica fan looking visibly upset with the developments. (ANI)
