Iran denies having had 'direct contact' with US over alleged plot to kill Saudi envoy

Tehran, Sat, 15 Oct 2011 ANI

Tehran, Oct 15 (ANI): Iran has denied that the United States had any "direct talks" with Tehran over the alleged involvement of the regime in a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington.

"No direct talks have been held between the two countries over the alleged plot," Alireza Miryousofi, press officer of Iran's Representative Office to the United Nations has said.

US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland, had however recently said that Washington "had direct contact with Iran on this issue," Xinhua reports.

The US Justice Department alleged that two men, Manssor Arbabsayar, and Gholam Shakuri, were charged with sponsoring and promoting terrorist activities abroad, including a plot to kill Saudi Ambassador Adel Al-Jubeir.

Attorney General Eric Holder said that the plot was 'directed and approved by elements of the Iranian government.'

He further pointed out the alleged involvement of members of Iran's special operations Quds Force. (ANI)
