Rawalpindi, Sept 11(ANI): Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to present former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's friend and lobbyist, Mark Siegel, before an anti-terrorism court in her assassination case.
Siegel is ready to appear before the court as a prosecution witness, and the FIA has even got Siegel's statement recorded under Article 161, the FIA's chief prosecutor, Chaudhry Zulfikar, told the Dawn.
According to Zulfikar, FIA Additional Director Azad Khan recorded the statement in the United States, in which Siegel said that former president Pervez Musharraf had threatened Bhutto with dire consequences if she returned home before the 2008 general elections.
The statement said that Bhutto had received a telephone call from Musharraf at a time when she was with Siegel.
In the conversation that followed, Musharraf allegedly told Bhutto that he would not be responsible for her security if she returned before the 2008 elections.
Zulfikar said that one of Bhutto's emails on the matter and Siegel's statement would be made part of the court proceedings at "the right time".
Musharraf was Pakistan's President when Benazir was killed in a gun and bomb attack as she was leaving Liaqat Bagh in Rawalpindi after addressing a public rally on December 27, 2007. (ANI)
