Eight fishermen complain of being trapped at sea off Gujarat coast

Chorwad (Gujarat), Sep.7 (ANI): More than eight fishermen are trapped at sea in a fishing trawler, off the Chorwad coast in Gujarat.

President of the Fishermen Association said that the Coast Guards have not provided aid yet.

The fishermen had gone into the sea in their trawlers as part of their daily routine but were caught unaware by the sudden change in weather.

The trawler was caught in the sea storm, marooning the fishermen for over 36 hours.

"More than 36 hours have passed but we have not received any help yet. Coast Guard officials say that we should work hand in hand with them. No help has been received from the Coast Guard. So, how are we to help them? We are not able to work in such a situation," said Naran Bhai Kharva, President of Fishermen Association.

Several trawlers were able to escape the violent storms at the sea.

A trawler named Keshri Nandan was to arrive at the coast but the engine broke down and the storm left the fishermen stranded.

Locals and fellow fishermen informed the Coast Guard officials about the stranded fishermen. However, no one has come to their rescue in the last two days.

Some coast guard officials said that the rescue operation had begun but was cut short due to bad weather.

According to media reports, all major coasts in the state have been put on high alert and the fishermen have been asked not to venture in the sea. (ANI)
