Urumqi, Sept 1(ANI): Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has renewed his pledge to fight terrorism and extremism while vowing closer cooperation with China in counterterrorism efforts.
Zardari made the pledge during a speech delivered at the first China-Eurasia Expo, which is currently being held in northwest China's city of Urumqi, Xinhua reports.
The president applauded China's efforts to fight religious extremism, adding that Pakistan understands the need to root out threats to stability, as his country has made "many sacrifices" in the global war against terrorism.
A day before, Zardari had said that Pakistan condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and would spare no effort in rooting out this menace.
He had expressed these views during his meeting with the political leaders of Xinjiang Ughur Autonomous Region, led by the Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Xinjiang, Zhang Chunxian, on the sidelines of the first China-Eurasia Expo.
Pakistan's Ambassador to China, Masood Khan, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim and Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar were part of the Pakistani delegation that attended the meeting. (ANI)
