Tripoli, Aug 23 (ANI): Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's son Saif al-Islam, who was presumed to have been detained b y the rebels, surprisingly appeared at a hotel with foreign journalists.
Some of Gaddafi's loyalist forces stubbornly resisted rebel efforts to take control of the capital, the New York Times reports.
Seif walked as a free man to the Gaddafi-controlled luxury Rixos Hotel in the center of Tripoli early Tuesday, boasting to foreign journalists there that his father's government was still "in control".
He also claimed that rebels have been trapped by Gaddafi regime forces.
His appearance has raised significant questions about the credibility of the rebel leaders.
According to reports, another son of Gaddafi, Muhammed, had escaped from house arrest on Monday.
The International Criminal Court had earlier claimed that Saif was detained, while Rebel National Transitional Council Coordinator Adel Dabbechi revealed that his eldest son, Mohammed Al-Gaddafi, had surrendered. t was also reported that the rebels in Green Square had taken control of Tripoli's Green Square, and that they plan to rename it Martyrs Square, as it was known originally.
