Support for Hazare gathers overwhelming momentum across India

Ahmedabad , Sun, 21 Aug 2011 ANI

Ahmedabad/Nagpur, Aug 21 (ANI): Indians from all walks of life continued to extend their solidarity with veteran social activist Anna Hazare on Sunday.

With Hazare's campaign gaining steam, his supporters have come up with new and innovative ways to step up pressure on the government to accept the Gandhian activist's demand.

In Ahmedabad , highly charged supporters of Hazare met lawmaker Harin Pathak, persuading him to raise the issue in the Parliament.

To this end, Hazare's supporters submitted a memorandum to Pathak, urging him to participate in the parliamentary discussion and push for smooth passage of the Bill.

"We met Mr. Harin Pathak here. He has assured us that as a federal lawmaker from Gujarat, he will participate in the parliamentary meeting on Ombudsman Bill and demand the formulation of a strong legislation," said Vinod Pandya, one of Hazare's supporters.

Meanwhile, in Bhopal, scores of his flag-waving supporters conducted a Hindu fire ritual, praying for Hazare's well-being and inner strength.

"We have prayed to God to give him power to continue his fast until the Ombudsman Bill is passed in the Parliament. We have prayed to God to ensure that all those who indulge in corruption, all those who are bent on destroying the country, get severely punished. This is why we have gathered here," said Uma Shankar Tiwari, a supporter.

"Also, our lawmakers say that the Parliament is supreme. I want to say that it is the people of this country who chose their lawmakers, so their voice must be heard. May God give strength to Anna Hazare. We are with him," he added. (ANI)
