Melbourne, Sun, 21 Aug 2011 ANI

Melbourne, Aug 21 (ANI): An Australian saltwater crocodile has officially been recognised by the Guinness World Records as the world's largest croc in captivity.

According to the Cairns Post, Cassius at 5.48 m (17 ft 11.75 in) has been living in Marineland Melanesia on Green Island, 27 km off the coast of Cairns for almost 24 years, News.com.au reported.

Cassius was captured south of Darwin in 1984 after he attacked many boats, and was relocated to captivity in the far north of Queensland in 1987.

The 100-year-old crocodile, who has lost an arm from fighting, will appear in the 2012 edition of the organisation's book. (ANI)
