Williams was sacked 'face to face' by Tiger Woods, says manager

Washington , Tue, 09 Aug 2011 ANI

Washington, Aug 9(ANI): Tiger Woods' manager has disputed former caddie Steve Williams' version of how he was fired by the American golfer.

Woods had said that he had done it in face-to-face, while Williams claims that it was done callously over the phone.

"Tiger flew from Florida to Philly to visit AT andT National and also for the express purpose of personally and officially telling Steve that they would no longer be working together," the Independent quoted Mark Steinberg, as saying.

"Tiger felt strongly about meeting face to face. Any assertions to the contrary are simply false," he added.

At last Tuesday's press conference, Woods was asked if he had fired Williams "face to face".

"Yes", replied Woods, before explaining how he did it "man to man".

Williams, however, had another version to describe.

"I was told on the phone we needed to take a break. And in caddie lingo, that means you're fired. Simple as that," Williams had said. (ANI)
