Islamabad, Aug 6 (ANI): Experts and analysts have questioned China's claim that terrorists trained in Pakistan had carried out acts of violence in Xinjiang, terming it a 'smokescreen' to hide the true reasons behind the attack.
An Al Jazeera report quoted the experts as saying that although Chinese Muslim activists had been trained under the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan, there is no evidence that they were trained to execute attacks in China.
The Express Tribune quoted Dru Giadney, an expert on Xinjiang politics at the Pacific Basin Institute in the US, as saying that claims of Chinese Muslim activists carrying out such attacks were baseless, and without evidence.
Urghur activists said China's claim was a 'smokescreen' to hide the true reasons behind the attack.
Urghurs have repeatedly complained of discrimination against them in the job market, stating that development has only benefited the majority Han population in Xinjiang.
The Kashgar local government had earlier claimed in its website that terrorists had learnt explosive-making skills in militant-run camps in Pakistan.
On Sunday, ten people were killed in China's Xinjiang region and another four were shot dead by police in a wave of violence sweeping the ethnically-torn area. (ANI)
