Indian modules could have caused Mumbai blasts, says Chidambaram

New Delhi , Thu, 04 Aug 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Aug 4 (ANI): Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Thursday said that there are indications of involvement of Indian module in the July 13 Mumbai blasts that killed 26 people.

Speaking on a debate in the Rajya Sabha on internal security, Chidambaram said: "While no conclusion has been reached, all indications point to Indian module."

"We cannot live in denial. We cannot close our eyes to facts. There are home grown modules. Indian modules. They do not belong to one religion," he added.

Emphasizing that security forces have so far smashed 51 terror modules in last two years, Chidambaram said: "We have successfully busted a number of modules."

He further said that India lived in the most troubled and vulnerable neighbourhood in the world as the epicentre of terrorism has shifted to Afghanistan and Pakistan from West Asia, The Hindu reports.

"As long as the epicentre of terrorism is in this region, we continue to be under the shadow of terror and continue to be vulnerable," he added.

Three coordinated rush-hour explosions had ripped through crowded Mumbai streets on July 13, which killed 19 people and injured over 130 others.

The serial blasts had rocked Opera House at 6.54 p.m., Zaveri Bazaar, a popular jewellery market, at 6.55 p.m., and Kabutar Khana, Dadar at 7.06 p.m. (ANI)
