Soon, cars that tell you to take the bus or risk getting late!

Melbourne, August 1 (ANI): Cars will soon be able to calculate whether the traffic jam you're in will make you late for a meeting, working out whether it might be better to park somewhere and take public transport.

BMW is developing a series of mobile phone applications that will use real-time satellite navigation to steer you around traffic jams, find you a parking spot, and give you directions from the parking station to your final destination, reports the Age.

The new applications will be introduced when the carmaker releases its first electric car in late 2013.

Other applications will allow them to check their battery's state of charge and call up a spider map that will show which destinations are within range for a return journey.

The phone apps will be part of a revolution in the way drivers use their cars, BMW says. (ANI)
