China's online game fair orders exhibitors to 'cover up' their showgirls

Beijing, July 31 (ANI): Models at ChinaJoy gaming event in Shanghai have been banned from wearing bikinis and from putting stickers in 'sensitive positions' under a new policy, which follows a government drive against 'vulgarity'.

China's biggest online game fair, sponsored by several official bodies, has ordered exhibitors to make sure that their showgirls do not wear revealing outfits.

The fair's organizers posted a comment on their website earlier this year that emphasized to "eradicate vulgarity", cultivate a good expo atmosphere and avoid a negative impact "through bad activities".

It said the commission would conduct strict checks on the number, the costumes and performance content of performers, The Age reports.

The move follows a government edict ordering online game companies not to use sexual or violent imagery to promote products.

However, thighs and cleavage were still evident in photographs of the event.

The event still includes a beauty pageant, described as "the most delightful platform for female players, models and showgirls for gaming companies". (ANI)
