Moscow, July 28 (ANI): Russia's space agency has announced that the International Space Station will be deorbited and allowed to sink into the Pacific Ocean in 2020, just like its predecessor, the Mir.
The International Space Station is a space base maintained about 200 miles above the the Earth's surface.
"We will be forced to sink the ISS. We cannot leave it in orbit as it is a very complicated and a heavy object," the Fox News quoted Roscosmos' deputy head Vitaly Davydov, as saying.
"We have agreed with our partners that the ISS would function roughly until 2020," he added.
The statement came as a shock to knowledgeable government sources and National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) spokesmen as they had invested billions of dollars in the space station construction. (ANI)
