Mumbai, July 18 (ANI): Days after triple blasts rocked Mumbai, the diamond traders here on Monday urged the state government to grant permission to open the Opera House area as their business has already been affected due to the blasts.
"Since that day (13th July blasts), police has not opened this area which is the main blast site, due to which we are facing heavy loss of work. The market was closed for a few days after the blasts by the consent of all the traders, as a mark of condolence. But now, the market should be opened in order to combat all the losses suffered by the traders," said Ajay Kumar, employee of a diamond shop.
Meanwhile, some traders criticised the state government over lack of security arrangements for the traders and common people.
"The diamond market is paying 33 percent tax to Maharashtra government out of the overall income tax of the state but the security given to the market is nil. There are no security arrangements for the public here," said Manish, a diamond trader.
Some people also complained of the lack of response of the state government in the aftermath of the blasts.
"The government should think that every step nowadays is a dangerous step for a human being in Mumbai. For a common man, it's too dangerous to travel in Mumbai. So you never know when, what happens and moreover, expectations always fall flat here. We build up expectations and we fall flat on it," said Vinay, a resident.
At least 19 persons have died and 134 persons have been injured in the Mumbai blasts.
The three serial blasts rocked Opera House at 6: 54 p.m., Zaveri Bazaar, a popular jewellery market, at 6: 55 p.m., and Kabutar Khana, Dadar at 7: 06 p.m. on July 13. (ANI)
