Coffees claiming to perk up your sex life can actually be Viagra clones

Melbourne, Mon, 18 Jul 2011 ANI

Melbourne, July 18 (ANI): Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is warning people not to consume caffeine-based drinks, as they may contain ingredients similar to the drug Viagra.

Analysis by government authorities has shown two instant coffees, Sexpresso and Rock Hard, contain analogues of sildenafil (Viagra) despite a ban on adding such drugs to foods, the watchdog said.

The drug was not listed as an ingredient on either of the drinks' labels and experts were unsure what side effects it could produce.

"State and territory food enforcement agencies are currently investigating the products, which are being sold as an instant coffee product, and have been available on the Internet and in adult shops," News.com.au quoted FSANZ as saying.

"Consumers who are using this product should stop taking it immediately and speak to a doctor if they are experiencing side effects."

FSANZ says there have been several food recalls in the past six months because of the presence of prescription medicines.

The authority says consumers should be cautious of food products that make claims about treating physical conditions.

"Consumers should speak to their doctor before taking these products as even natural products can interfere with prescription medicines, it warns. (ANI)
