Mumbai blasts: BJP demands apology from Sonia on Digvijay Singh's RSS remarks

New Delhi/Mumbai , Sat, 16 Jul 2011 ANI

New Delhi/Mumbai, July 16 (ANI): Stating that Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh is maligning Indian politics, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly condemning his remarks that the involvement of radical Hindu outfit Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) cannot be ruled out in the Mumbai blasts, on Saturday demanded an apology from Congress President Sonia Gandhi in this regard.

"Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi should apologise to the country over today's remark made by Digvijay Singh, which is very objectionable regarding militancy. Digvijay Singh is maligning Indian politics," said BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain.

"Bharatiya Janata Party strongly criticises his statement and we expect that Congress chief herself would call the press and will apologise on behalf of Digvijay Singh's remarks. As he (Digvijay Singh) is the member of the core team of Rahul Gandhi, we believe that the views of Rahul Gandhi are being voiced by Digvijay Singh," he added.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi showing displeasure over Singh's statement said that the spirit of the deceased militant Osama bin Laden has overpowered him.

"I would suggest the Congress party to take him (Digvijay Singh) to the bank of Arab Sagar (Arabian Sea) and carry out some traditional treatment to dispel the notorious spirit of Osama Bin Laden residing in his body, for the welfare of the country," said Naqvi.

He also suggested that a close association existed between Congress leaders and militant outfits, illustrated by the militant-friendly statements made by their senior leaders.

"I believe that, firstly, the Congress party must clarify the militant-friendly statements being made by their senior leaders, one after another. They must also clear that are their statements against the nationalists a part of their policies? Secondly, the facts, which have not been disclosed neither by Osama bin laden, al-Qaeda nor the ISI agents, how are the same facts being quoted by Digvijay Singh and Congress party?" asked Naqvi.

"It clearly shows that somewhere down the line, Digvijay Singh and Congress party is acting as the mouth piece of ISI and militants," he added.

Digvijay Singh earlier in the day said the involvement of RSS cannot be ruled out in the serial blasts that rocked Mumbai city.

Speaking to media persons in New Delhi, Singh said he still adheres to the allegations made by him, as he has possessed sufficient evidence against the RSS.

"I have said that I will not rule out anything. Let the investigative agencies inquire it. Yes, if they want evidences about Sangh's involvement in terrorist activities, I have got evidences but not in this case. I have already said on my part that I will not rule out anything," he said.

At least 19 persons have died and over 130 others injured in the triple blasts, which took place at Zaveri Bazar, Opera House and Dadar in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. (ANI)
