London, July 8 (ANI): A 72-year-old man British-Pakistani man has been evading the police for over 25 years after being convicted for rape.
Dost Mohammed went on the run last year while awaiting trial for raping a 20-year-old Bradford University student in April 1986, The Sun reports.
But before being arrested in 1986, he fled to Pakistan. He later secretly sneaked back into Britain after 19 months.
Mohammed, now 72, was finally tracked down in Bradford, West Yorks, last year. But when given bail by magistrates, partly due to his age, he took out 5,900 pounds from his bank and is gain reported to be on the run.
Mohammed, now believed hiding in Pakistan, was jailed for six years in his absence at Leeds Crown Court.
Judge Kerry Macgill praised the victim - who had been so devastated by the attack that she abandoned her studies at Bradford University - as 'a very brave lady' for reliving her ordeal in court. (ANI)
