New Delhi, July 7 (ANI): The Planning Commission has allocated a sum of Rs. 23, 535 crores to the state of Tamil Nadu for the year 2011-12.
The plan ammount was approved after a meeting between the Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa on Wednesday.
In clearing the plan amount, Ahluwalia urged the Government of Tamil Nadu to focus on development in sectors like energy, health, water and urbanization. He also said there was a need for fresh initiatives to create an investor-friendly environment in the state. He also said that the state government must place emphasis on improving revenue generation and encourage public-private-partnership (PPP) in the roads and health sectors.
Ahluwalia said the Planning Commission would be willing to help Tamil Nadu in working out a development plan which would make development more inclusive.
Jayalalithaa, on the other hand, claimed that her government has inherited poor fiscal health with outstanding debt crossing one lakh crore.
She said investments in agriculture, industry and basic infrastructure would be considerably enhanced to restore Tamil Nadu's attractiveness to investors.
She said amenities basic to livelihood and dignity of rural and urban poor would be improved.
She said the state would make a determined push for growth in the manufacturing sector for sustaining growth in the services sector. (ANI)
