London, July 04 (ANI): A poll has revealed that age is no longer a barrier to trying adventurous activities for the first time, with 70 percent of over 60 taking up a new sport or hobby in the past year.
More than half believed that their later years allow them more freedom than ever before. And one in five says that taking up a hobby has made them feel young again.
A poll by Age UK found learning a foreign language, a new sport or even going for a one-off adrenaline high, such as sky diving or paragliding, are just some of the exciting activities being taken up by older Britons.
The research was carried out to mark the launch of a TV advertising campaign for the charity, which shows older people living life to the full.
"We hope to show another side to growing older and encourage people of all ages to reassess some common perceptions of later life," the Daily Express quoted Michelle Mitchell, charity director at Age UK, as saying.
"One in five said that they have felt more comfortable in their own skin since they reached 60, and this confidence helps give people the drive to try Âactivities they have always wanted to, or to return to previous passions.
"This advert is about celebrating age - showing that growing older does not have to be a barrier to making the most of life," added Mitchell.
The survey, by OnePoll, asked more than 2,000 people of all age groups for their attitudes towards later life.
While 17 per cent of per cent of 16 to 24-year-olds quizzed describe old age as "boring" or "slower-paced," the survey found that most over-60s say their lifestyles are "interesting, varied, fun and rewarding" as well as "active". (ANI)
