Jalpaiguri / Darjeeling, July 3(ANI): The Border Security Force (BSF) has installed alarm system at its North Bengal Frontier with Bangladesh to control cross-border crimes.
The system has been attached to the fence, which would go off immediately if the barbed wires are touched, to alert guards at the nearest outpost.
In addition to this, guards patrolling at night can make use of the night vision deices to locate objects in the dark by sensing body heat.
"We have got human elements (security personnel). Our soldiers are deployed (on the border). They dominate (inspect) at night. We are using alarm system, which is attached to fencing. In addition to it, we are using night vision devices through which we watch in night," said Kamal Keswani, Inspector-General of the BSF (North Bengal Frontier).
He also said that the BSF is keen to involve public as a source of information to multiply its force.
"That multiplies our strength, but we are teaching them (soldiers) how to involve the public in general on the borders and they should become our force multiplier," Keswani said.
Smuggling, infiltration, transport of fake Indian currencies, narcotics, and human and cattle trafficking are common in the North Bengal Frontier region, which covers around 885kms of the porous India-Bangladesh border. (ANI)
