Hanamkonda (Warangal, Andhra Pradesh), June 22 (ANI): Telangana activists on Wednesday attacked Andhra Pradesh Handlooms and Textiles Minister Shankar Rao's convoy in Hanamkonda town in Andhra Pradesh's Warangal District when he arrived to pay his last respects to Telangana ideologue K. Jayashankar, who expired on Tuesday.
Raising slogans of "Jai Telangana", students and activists of various pro-Telangana groups hurled stones and footwear at the minister's convoy, police said.
Police rescued the minister, even as the window panes of his car were damaged in the attack.
Earlier Telangana activists roughed up Congress lawmakers S. Rajaiah and G. Vivek on Tuesday when they came to Jayashankar's house to pay their respects.
Angry mourners have vowed not to allow Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders to pay their respects to Jayashankar or, allow them to attend his funeral.
Students of Kakatiya University also joined the Telangana activists in voicing their protests against the presence of Congress leaders. They used the occasion to reiterate their demand for the creation of a separate state of Telangana. (ANI)
