Vishakhapatnam, June 19(ANI): A numismatic and philatelic exhibition was organized in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, where visitors got glimpse of some rare coins and currency notes of 200 BC.
A one-kg silver coin of Mahatma Gandhi that was issued by the Government of Malta and gold plated currency notes issued by the Bank of England were on display. Also, a very rare small coin 'Mashak' issued by the Mauryan rulers was a major attraction at the event.
Forty exhibitors participated in the exhibition with the collection of coins and currency notes belonged to 232 countries. Ancient Postal stamps and other stationary belonging to the ancient history were also displayed in various themes.
The exhibition, which started today, would conclude on Tuesday.
"During the exhibition, exhibitors exhibited ancient coins of chera, chola, pandya, satavahana and also we have exhibited the latest coins of 232 countries and with about 40 to 50 participants. We also exhibited gold coins, silver coins of one-kg weight and also gold currency notes from Russia and England," said B.M.K Bhaskara Rao, President of Numismatic and Philatelic Society.
"We also depicted the currency notes of various types with the signatures of various governors and one rupee currency notes with signatures of various other secretaries and also currency notes of different varieties, ranging from one rupee to one thousand rupees," he added.
G.K. Subramanyam, a visitor told mediapersons, that there were many rare gold and ancient coins that cost between 100,000 rupees to 500,000 rupees. (ANI)
