Kolkata, May 14(ANI): West Bengal Congress president Manas Bhunia on Saturday hailed Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress' victory in the state assembly polls.
Addressing the media in Kolkata, Bhuniya said that the Congress extends its support to the TMC's action plan for the state.
"We would support Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool chief during all her workings. We would be there to help her and even along with other leaders, would help in her action plan. We would also together and chalk out plans about helping the people of the state and its development," Bhuniya said.
The TMC won 227 seats out of 294 in the legislative assembly, while the ruling Left Front, led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), only garnered 62 seats.
"The people of the state have ended the 34 years of rule of the Marxist party yesterday. They have ended the battle to free people from the dark phase of atrocities and bad governance," Bhuniya said.
He also praised the election commission for the smooth running of the assembly polls in West Bengal.
West Bengal had assembly elections to its 294-seat legislature in six phases, on April 18, 23 and 27, and May 3, 7 and 10.
"The way the Election Commissioner has used the power of constitution and democracy, it is incredible. It has been proved that bullets and guns do not have the last word but people of the country, the constitution, and democracy have the last word. The evidence is the election commission," Bhuniya said. (ANI)
