Parents 'should unplug computer, phones and plug into kids more'

Melbourne, May 10 (ANI): Techno savvy parents should switch off their phones and computers while spending time with kids, a study urges.

It is observed that tweeting, texting, talking on the phone and surfing the net distracts parents and disengages them from the kids.

This could make the children feel they are not important to a parent.

Child psychologist, Sally-Anne McCormack says that technology is increasingly impacting families, as parents are not able to spend wholesome time with children.

"Sometimes parents do need to unplug and plug into their families a bit more, set aside some quality time," The Courier Mail quoted her as saying.

"Some may think because they are at the playground they are spending quality time with their children, but if they are playing a game on their phone or doing some work they are not actually present," McCormack added.

Parenting expert and Early Life Foundations founder, Kathy Walker says, "parents are not necessarily conscious of it, but they are on duty for work and socially 24/7". (ANI)
