Ahmedabad, Apr 27 (ANI): Gujarat Meteorological Department officials have said there will be no respite for the people in the region from heat wave conditions for the next few days.

The scorching sun has spared none, as the temperature hovers between 40 to 44 degrees Celsius in Ahmedabad.

Kamaljeet Ray, Director, Meteorological Department, said the heat wave would continue for the coming week and the temperatures would rise further next month.

"As of now, the temperatures are two to three degrees above normal and heat wave is also there in some of the places in Gujarat like Idar recorded yesterday 43-44 degrees around. And Bhuj was also experiencing 42 degrees day before yesterday also," Ray said on Tuesday.

"So, this kind of condition will continue. For two days, the temperatures are going to be two to three degrees above normal and also heat wave is expected at one or two places in Saurashtra and Gujarat," she added.

Locals here have been complaining that the heat wave conditions have disrupted their normal life. Many say that they are finding ways to protect themselves from the sweltering heat by drinking fruit juices.

"I am able to work till 12 p.m., but after that it becomes difficult to work and I find a place to sit under a tree or shade. During summers, it's really bad and I am unable to do my field work. And the only solution is to drink juice and yoghurt etc," said Rakesh, a sales man.

With the temperatures soaring, men and women move out of their houses here with their faces and heads covered with scarves. (ANI)
