Sanya (China), Apr 14(ANI): Chinese President Hu Jintao has called for an immediate cease-fire in Libya to prevent an even worse humanitarian crisis in the country.

Jintao said that China is very concerned with the continuing turmoil in the country and the humanitarian crisis there.

"China supports the political efforts of all parties, including the African Union, in alleviating the crisis in Libya," the China Daily quoted Jintao, as saying.

He also stressed that China is willing to help restore stability in the north African country.

A delegation from the African Union is trying to negotiate a cease-fire in Libya, meeting with Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi and members of the rebel Transitional National Council.

The delegation, with leaders from South Africa, Mauritania, Mali, Uganda and Congo, says that it wants an immediate end to all hostilities.

It is also seeking to provide a regular supply of humanitarian aid and the beginning of a dialogue between the Libyan government and its opponents. (ANI)
